Forum book art maintains an archive of works of contemporary book art containing about 1400 fine prints, artist books, painter books and book objects. Museums, art associations, libraries and other interested parties may borrow from the holdings for a limited time in order to display them in their showcases. There is a nominal charge for this service. Forum book art provides legends for these items ready for display. On request we can design complete exhibit packages with catalog, poster, handouts, invitations, and press information.

Reference Library

The forum book art reference library contains indexes, catalogs, handbooks, trade journals, videos, CD-ROMs, DVDs and photos of book artists, their studios and their works.

The extensive library of works of contemporary book arts, a reference library, catalogs, and the internal database are ready for use to students and scientists of arts and books for research and scientific work. In the registry you can find background material of about 600 presses and book artists from all over the world.
Additionally there is a photocopier, a scanner and a digital repro camera. By request there is also an internet connection available.
A preceding registration is required for use, containing a short description of the intended work of study and information on the approximate durance of the studies.
Forum book art Hamburg is 10 minutes from the center of the city via public transport and the Außenalster is right next door. Foreign visitors who would like to combine their stay with a language course reach the Goethe-Institut within 10 minutes by bus.
Also just a few minutes from us is the Museum für Arbeit with its active printing, hand press printing, and lithography workshops which is strongly associated with forum book art.


Relating on an appropriate preannouncement we are happy to find you a cheap accommodation in the neighborhood. As forum book art is a private institution without public support we have to charge 100,- € per day of usage.
